Linking Home to Nursery

We very much believe that a partnership between parents and nursery will benefit your child. We therefore encourage links between home and nursery in the following ways:

By sending home regular newsletters with information about the Centre and our activities.

By inviting you into the nursery for concerts and special events.

By holding special theme weeks when you can spend an hour or so in the nursery to play alongside your child and learn a little more about the activities we have.

By asking you to help when we take the children out on trips

By having a lunch week when you can come and sample the food the children have at lunchtime.

We also use Twitter and Seesaw to communicate with parents using newsletters and pictures.

Open-door policy

We are always eager to inform you of how your child has settled in at nursery. We encourage an “open door” policy, and you are always welcome to come into the nursery when leaving or collecting your child.

Throughout the year, we keep you informed of the progress your child is making through regular parent-teacher consultations and by a written report at the end of the year.

If you have concerns about your child in any way, please speak to a member of staff who may be able to help, or who will put you in touch with someone else who can.

Helping your child to settle into Nursery 

Before the children start nursery, they have opportunities to attend small group sessions at the Centre, to meet with some of the other children and get to know the staff who will be working with them.

We recognise that starting nursery can be a stressful experience for parents and children alike. You are welcome to stay with your child in order to help with settling in. You may also wish to collect your child slightly earlier during the first few days. Staff are always available to answer any queries that you may have.

We ask that children are collected by an adult who is known to us. If for any reason someone unknown to us is collecting your child on a particular day, we would ask that you notify us either in writing or by phone. We ask all parents to provide us with a “password” in order to ensure that the arrangements are as secure as possible.

We never allow children to leave nursery with a stranger. If you are unavoidably delayed, nursery staff will stay with the children but we urge you to make every effort to be on time as it can be distressing for your child to see all the other children being collected, and they are still waiting. Regular and punctual attendance will help your child to settle into nursery and set a good habit for the future.

Please let us know as soon as you can if your child is absent from nursery for whatever reason.
